violinist, 28.mar.1875 baptized in Oakworth near Keighley, 1891 as musician residing at 7 Midland Road in Bradford Heaton, studied at the Royal College of Music London and the Joachim Hochschule in Berlin, ARCM, professor of violin at Trinity College London, 1901-1908 concertmaster of the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich Switzerland, leader of the Tonhalle Quartet Zurich, 1908 he owned a 1809 Nicolas Lupot violin and 1915 a 1738 Carlo Bergonzi violin, 10.may.1909 at Bechstein Hall London his Ackroyd Quartette played Max Reger works accompanied by the composer, 1918 violin master at Harrow School, 1918-1920 residing with his wife at 11 Lyon Road in London Harrow, 1934-1944 residing at 11 Powis Grove in Brighton Sussex, 1953 residing at 3 Liverpool Terrace in Worthing ; son of woolsorter Spencer Ackroyd (Keighley 1852-1923 Bradford) and Rebecca Whitaker (Keighley 1851-1900 Bradford) ; he married Lillian Maud Storey ; 1949 in London Kensington he married Muriel Agnes Ellison Watson Shaw (Erpingham Norfolk 17.aug.1894-19.feb.1977 Worthing)
