pianist, teacher piano, known as Mrs. Crosby Adams, 1865 aged 7 studied piano with local teachers in Niagara Falls and later with Cecelia Cary, Claude Crittenden and Henri Abby in Rochester, studied music theory with Adolf Weiding in Chicago, 1879-1883 teacher piano at Ingham University in LeRoy NY, 1883-1887 maintained private studios in Buffalo, 1887-1891 in Kansas City, 1891-1912 in Chicago and 1912-1951 in Montreat while her husband directed choirs and 1912-1951 in Montreat also taught choral conducting and music theory, she and her husband taught at the Montreat Normal School and organized Summer Festivals, 1880 she was boardmember and 1945 honorary member of the Music Teachers National Association, 1932 she was awarded the DMus degree from Converse College and 1945 from the University of North Carolina, both she and her husband were still accepting students at the age of 92, she died at Bridwood Hospital in Black Mountain while residing at 'House-in-the-Woods' in Montreat ; daughter of farmer Lyman Coleman Graves (Massachusetts, Belchertown 12.jun.1827-16.jul.1907 Illinois, Oak Park) and Clarissa 'Clara' Clark (Massachusetts, Granby 17.feb.1833-22.dec.1892 Chicago) ; 18.sep.1883 she married choral conductor/music teacher Crosby Adams (Niagara Falls 1.dec.1857-27.feb.1951 Montreat)
