choirmaster, studied with George Alexander Macfarren at the Royal Academy of Music in London, subprofessor to Macfarren for four years, 1882 he became ARAM, 1882-1892 professor of harmony and composition at the Royal Academy of Music, 1891 residing with his father, 2 servants and a sick nurse at The Vicarage Dale Street in Ossett Yorkshire, 1892 professor and choral conductor at Trinity College London, 1910 until death residing at 11 Sheriff Road in West Hampstead London, he died at West Terrace in Cranbrook Kent leaving a fortune of £11150 to nobody ; son of vicar reverend William Robert Fountaine Addison (Somerset, Bath 1818-29.may.1893 Ossett) and Sarah Ellen Elizabeth Grylls (Cornwall, Cardinham 21.nov.1827-29.jul.1890 Ossett) ; brother artist/landscape painter William Grylls Addison (Dorchester 1852-29.sep.1904 Kent, Goudhurst) ; he never married
