bandmaster, lieutenant colonel, 1890 residing with his parents at Austin House in Walsoken Norfolk, 1910-1934 residing in London Twickenham, 1910-1913 studied band conducting at the Royal Military School of Music in Kneller Hall Twickenham, 1911 sergeant and musician in the 2nd Gloucester regiment, 1913 bandmaster of the 2nd Battalion Suffolk Regiment, took diplomas at the RAM and RCM in London, 1918 BM from Durham University, 1921-1953 bandmaster at the Royal Military School in Kneller Hall, 1924 he conducted the massed bands at the opening of the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley, 1931, 1945 and 1958 he wrote 'Treatise on the military band' and two revisions, 24.aug.1934 he played with his band at the Centenary Exhibition in Toronto, 23.aug.1935 again at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, 1933-1939 residing alone at 14 Seymour Road in London East Molesey, 1934 his boarding or business address was Manor Road in London Teddington ; son of steward of the Walsoken Conservative Club and retired soldier at 50 James Adkins (Warwick 19.may.1840-11.mar.1906 Essex) and Emma Ryan (Ireland, Limerick 1844-) ; brother of organist/composer James Edward Adkins (Ireland, Belfast 14.dec.1867-4.jan.1939 Lancashire, Preston) ; 1917 in West Ham Essex he married Ada Lily Fidler, in 1930 they separated
