mandolinist, trombonist, bandmaster, 1870 residing near Utica in Eden, Licking County Ohio, 1885 residing with his parents at Lot 86 in Colony, Adams County Iowa, 1894-1896 as music publisher of his own mandolin compositions residing in Creston Iowa, 1896 he moved to Des Moines, 1897 he also started to publish music by other composers for mandolin and guitar, 1898 teacher guitar, mandolin and banjo at Des Moines Musical College, 1899 bandmaster of his Agnew's Military Band, 1900-1904 as musician, teacher mandolin, guitar and banjo, music publisher with musical instruments shop at 722 Grand Avenue residing at 1011 Woodland Avenue in Des Moines, from 1903 he composed works for one instrument only and 1907 gave up composing alltogether, 1904 he played trombone in the Iowa State Military Band at Ingersoll Park sunday concerts, 6.jan.1905 he purchased the W W Kimball Piano Co. stock of music and became manager of the Kimball sheet music department from that date, 1905-1909 with music publishing at 802/813 Walnut Street in Des Moines, 1906-1910 first trombonist in the Henry Band (T. Fred Henry) giving many concerts at Ingersoll Park Des Moines, 23.aug.1908 he played solo trombone in the Henry Band at Ingersoll Park to entertain the thousands of visitors to the state fair of the coming week, 1910-1911 as music dealer, publisher and music store keeper residing at 1616 20th Street in Des Moines, from 1911 he published only band music by other composers, 1915 as music publisher employer calling himself musician residing at 1616 20th Street in Des Moines, 14-19.feb.1916 he played in the Henry Band during the Des Moines Auto Show, 1919-1920 as music publisher residing in Newton Iowa, 1921 again in Des Moines, 1926-1935 as music publisher with mail order company residing at 5444 Highland Avenue in Kansas City Missouri, 1936 teacher of band instruments with studio at 1206 24th Street and later at Garver Building 707 Locust in Des Moines, 1937 he gave up the music publishing, 1940 as musician residing at 1511 Grand Avenue Des Moines, he was buried at Graceland Cemetery in Creston Iowa ; son of farmer Samuel D Agnew (Pennsylvania, ?Pennsboro 1841-14.nov.1927 Des Moines) and Almira E Demuth (Ohio Tuscarawas County, Mill 30.jul.1844-19.apr.1936 Iowa, Creston) ; 14.aug.1894 in Creston Iowa he married Gertrude E Patterson (Illinois, Monmouth jul.1874-24.jun.1935 Kansas City)

[rem: possibly composed for the Head Camp Meeting of Woodmen in Kansas City the week of 5 to 10 June 1899 where 23 bands constantly played in the grand parade of 10,000 men starting on Grand Ave ending at Convention Hall with Main and Walnut Streets illuminated with incandescent lamps. On June 9 and 10 the 23 bands took part in the band contests at Convention hall and baseball park. Des Moines took part with several Forester camps, unknown if they were joined by bands]
