violinist, conductor, teacher, 1936 BM in composition with Carl Grimm at Cincinnati Conservatory, studied with Jean Rivier in Paris, 1937 MM and 1946 DM with Bernard Rogers and Howard Hanson from the Eastman School of Music, 1937-1944 taught violin at Florida State University, 1946-1950 director of the School of Music of Augustana College in Rock Island Illinois, 1950-1957 at Ohio University, 1967-1974 professor of music at Ohio University, 1950 he received the University of Illinois Contemporary Festival Orchestral Performance Award, 1954 the Philadelphia Arts Alliance Eurydice Choral Award, 1972 the Ohio Music Teachers Association composition award, 1973 first prize in the National School Orchestra Association competition, 1983 residing at 5 Old Peach Ridge in Athens
