organist, studied music at Peabody Conservatory, 1880-1887 as music teacher and organist of the First Presbyterian Church and the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation residing with his mother at 251 Franklin Street in Baltimore, 1889-1896 as organist of Madison Avenue Temple residing with his mother at 1111 Harlem Avenue in Baltimore, 14.jun.1894 age 31 he applied for a passport to go abroad temporarily intending to return within one year, his main reason was a visit to Bayreuth for the Wagner festival, 12.sep.1894 he returned from Germany to Baltimore, aged 34 he committed suicide by drinking laudanum and arsenic in a room at Hotel Stafford, 15.feb.1897 he was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery ; son of machinist Sylvanus R Aler (Maryland, ?Prince George 1837-5.oct.1867 Baltimore) and Eunice A Washburn (West Virginia 1835-22.dec.1913 Washington DC) ; he never married
