cantor, organist, poet, jurist, historian, [Gerber: composer], son of a preacher in Celle, 1566 studied in Wittenberg, 1568 in Strasbourg and graduated in theology at Frankfurt an der Oder, he lived in Braunschweig most of his life, 1575-1590 employed as chancery clerk and court singer and bassist in the Cantorei of duke Julius von Braunschweig, 1580 appointed as notary at the University of Helmstedt, 1598-1603 organist of the Marienkirche in Wolfenbuttel ; 1578 he married the daughter of the Braunschweig organist Thomas Kellner
