conductor, arranger, of african descent, 1914 his family moved to 1557 East 21st Street in Los Angeles, graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles, studied music with William T Wilkins in Los Angeles, studied composition at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, 1930 musician of an orchestra in Los Angeles, 1940 musician for radio Pico and Paloma and choral conductor of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Los Angeles, 1940 residing with his mother at 1557 East 21st Street in Los Angeles, 1947 associate professor of music at Sam Houston College in Austin Texas and conductor of the college choir, 1943-1945 he arranged many negro folk song arrangements, some published but the most copyrighted by several private persons of Los Angeles, 1948 conductor of the world famous negro choir Wings over Jordan, considered the best of all negro choirs, 1957 music teacher at Wiley College in Marshall Texas, 1957 he arranged many negro folk spirituals for the publisher R. D. Row Co. in Boston ; son of church janitor John H Allen (Kentucky 1860-6.may.1930 Los Angeles) and Mollie 'Tillie' Miller (Indiana 1868-) ; 13.apr.1950 in Nansemond Virginia he married Goldie Evelyn Morris (North Carolina, Rich Square 16.feb.1912-22.dec.2001 Chesapeake)
