1870 residing with his widowed mother in Washington Township near Salem, c1874 studied music with Philip Paul Bliss in Chicago, 10.jun.1880 as married music teacher, he was in Salem without his wife, living or on visit at the home of his married brother Charles and his widowed mother Sarah and his single brother Heber, 1885 at the birth of his daughter he resided in Lexington Indiana ; son of Joseph M Allen (Salem 4.oct.1831-25.may.1865 Salem) and Sarah J Wilson Huston (Salem 25.nov.1834-16.nov.1904 Salem) ; brother of the printers Charles A Allen (Salem 28.nov.1856-) and Heber H Allen (Salem 8.jul.1861-) ; he had only one sister who died aged 2 (Salem 1858-1860) ; 17.jan.1880 in Lexington he married Lucy Endaly (Indiana, Madison 16.feb.1856-29.jul.1921 Illinois, Chicago Geneva/Batavia ; 1893 in Chicago she remarried farmer Adam Blacksmith (Germany sep.1834)) ; daughter Frances Marian 'May' 'Mae' Allen (Indiana, Lexington 13.feb.1885-25.jun.1941 Illinois, Chicago Mt Morris, bur Batavia ; 1910 music teacher in Indianapolis), daughter Luisa Allen (Indiana feb.1888 ; 1900 residing in Chicago Geneva/Batavia)
