cornetist, bandmaster, as boy cornetist played in the Dewsbury Old Brass Band Yorkshire, 1894 aged 16 started as cornetist with the Clydebank Burgh Band in  Clydebank near Glasgow Scotland, after one season for about 4 years (1895-c1898) solo cornet, then for 9 years (c1898-1906) bandmaster of Clydebank Burgh Band, 1901 aged 20 married to a 21 year old Margaret residing at 31 Kilbowie Gardens in Clydebank employed as iron dresser in a foundry, 2.apr.1904 residing in Clydebank he won 1st prize in a Solo Contest championship of Scotland held in Dunfermline, 1904-1905 bandmaster of Milngavie Brass Band Stirlingshire, 1906 appointed bandmaster of the Polton Mills Brass Band, 2.nov.1912 as bandmaster of the Penicuik Town Band he gave a programme of music in High Street, 1913-1923 bandmaster of the Penicuik Silver Band, 28.jun.1913 he gave a Promenade Concert at Tower Park with the Silver Band concluding with an 'outstanding item' cornet solo Polka The Caledonian, 31.mar.1914 he gave a cornet solo at a concert at a South United Free Church meeting in West Street Hall Penicuik, 1914-1918 in WWI bandmaster of the 3/8th Royal Scots in France, 1918 band master of the Musselburgh Band, 1920 he advertized 'W. A. Allison Bandmaster: supplies string bands for dances, marriages and parties of any description. Distance no object. Latest London and up-to-date dance music a speciality. 20 years experience. Satisfaction guaranteed.', 1.feb.1923 as bandmaster of the Penicuik Silver Band he performed at a Burns' Concert in the Cowan Institute hall in Penicuik where he also contributed the Caledonian Polka as a cornet solo for which he was loudly encored, 1928 bandmaster of Lassodie Public Band Fife, 1929-1930 bandmaster of Inverkeithing Burgh Band Fife, 1930-1935 bandmaster of the Perth Silver Band, 3.dec.1932 he won second prize with the Perth Silver Band at a band contest at Albert Hall in Stirling, 16.nov.1935 he won 5th prize with the Perth Silver Band in the brass band contest for the championship of Scotland organized by the Scottish Amateur Band Association held in Kirkcaldy, 7.dec.1935 on the Brass Band Contest at Stirling his death at the age of 56 was commemorated with one minute silence whereafter the Alva Town Band played 'Deep Harmony', survived by wife and 3 sons (the eldest named Louis) who occasionally assisted in the Perth Silver Band
