organist, teacher, son of a wealthy brewer, 1821 started as a church singer, studied piano, organ, violin and music theory at the Breslauer Seminary, studied organ with and became assistant organist of Adolf Friedrich Hesse at the St Bernhard-Hauptkirche in Breslau, 1834 teacher in Bernau, 1837-1842 teacher at the cathedral school in Riga, 1838-1858 organist of the Reformed and the Anglican parishes in Riga, after 1842 he taught music privately and was instructor for quartet singing societies, he was theatre and concert critic and from 1848 editor in chief of the Rigasche Zeitung
