pianist, 14.feb.1836 and 6.mar.1836 baptized at St Mark's in Manchester Cheetham, 1854 emigrated to the USA New York City where he dropped the alias Andrews, 1855 as piano maker boarding with his brother pianist Richard jr. and violinist Joseph Burke in New York Lower Manhattan, 1860-1864 he made concert tours with prima donna Charlotte Varian James in Wisconsin, Rhode Island and Ohio, 1864-1867 with his wife now known as Charlotte Varian in Wisconsin, Alabama, Virginia, Georgia and Indiana, 21.jan.1868 he and his wife Mme Varian Hoffman assisted Ole Bull in his concert at the Music Hall in Milwaukee, 15.jan.1870 he was accompanist in Ole Bull's farewell concert at the Young Men's Christian Association in New York, 1877 as piano maker residing at Third Avenue near East 148th Street in Bronx with company Hoffman & Co. at 504 East 16th Street in Lower Manhattan, 1889 as musician residing at 322 East 11th Street in Lower Manhattan ; son of composer Richard Hoffman Andrews sr. ; c1863 he married prima donna Charlotte Bartlett (Maine, Eastport 4.nov.1825-23.apr.1884 Manhattan ; 28.jul.1849 widow of Miles Beach Varian, whereafter she went to Italy to study voice and married a Mr. James and had a daughter Nina (Italy 1.feb.1856-13.sep.1880 at sea from Liverpool), 1860 she deserted him and returned to the USA dropping the name James in 1862 and appearing as Charlotte Varian)
