cellist, studied piano with Richard Hol, violin with Wilhelm Joseph von Wasielewski, cello with Charles Montigny, Jean Godefroid Merlen and Jacques Franco Mendes, 1851 cellist in Zaandam, 1854 residing in Amsterdam, 1854 toured England and Scotland as member of the Jullien Orchestra, 1854 on tour in Switzerland, 14.may.1857 arrived at New York, 1876 became friends with preacher Henry Ward Beecher during a six month stay in New York, 1865-1870 member of a quartet with Frans Coenen, Josef Cramer and W A Sickler, 1864-1883 teacher cello at the Maatschappij tot Bevordering van Toonkunst in Amsterdam, 1871 also in Haarlem, 1.may.1884-1894 teacher cello and founder/director of Academie voor Muziek Amsterdam and Muziekschool Haarlem, 24.apr.1894 emigrated to the USA, 11.feb.1895 the family followed, 1894 he opened a music school in Kansas City
