pianist, 1906 completed his study piano with Tomas Fernandez Grajal winning the first prize in piano and 1908 completed his study composition with Tomas Fernandez Grajal at Madrid Conservatory, 1909-1913 he was granted a scholarship by the government at Academia de Espana in Rome Italy to perfect his study composition (but remained active in Rome until 1915), 1912 he wrote articles 'Sobre la opera espanola' in Revista Musical de Bilbao, 1912 in Paris he participated with Tomas Breton, Conrado del Campo, Felipe Pedrell and others in the controversy over spanish opera, advocating an opera sung in castellano, 1915 professor of harmony and composition at Escuela de Pradoluengo ; son of Buenaventura Arenal and Celestina Arenal, well-off industrialists from cloth manufacturing families ; brother of composer Gonzalo Arenal
