pianist, theorist, educated at the Realgymnasium in Mainz, studied piano with Theodor Bohlmann, Wilhelm Kraupner and Hans Richard in Germany, 3.jun.1899 emigrated to the USA, 1904 graduated from Wesleyan School of Music in Delaware Ohio, 20.jan.1908 in Marion Ohio he became naturalized american, 1908 graduated from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, taught piano and theory for 17 years, 1907-1913 director of Terre Haute Conservatory of Music in Terre Haute Indiana, 1913 professor of piano and composition at Lawrence Conservatory of Music in Appleton Wisconsin, gave piano recitals classical and modern repertoire, 1917 had in preparation a work on piano teaching, 1918-1926 residing in Appleton Wisconsin, 1926-1942 private piano teacher in Green Bay ; son of Friedrich Wilhelm 'Fritz' Arens and Johanna Margaretha Ferdinande 'Marguerite' Merkel ; 6.may.1902 in Union Ohio he married teacher of music Jeannette Allyn (Ohio c1880-), divorced 1910 in Terre Haute with daughter Marguerite (Ohio 30.jun.1906-) ; July 1914 he married teacher dramatic art at Lawrence Conservatory Mary Margaret Miller (Wisconsin, Kenosha 23.oct.1890-3.oct.1971 Green Bay) probably in Chicago where she was living with her widowed mother at that time
