pianist, 13.nov.1840 baptized at St Margaret's-in-the-Close in Lincoln, studied at first with her father, then was sent to Leipzig where she studied for 3 years with Ignaz Moscheles, Moritz Hauptmann and Ernst Friedrich Richter, 1861 Ernst Friedrich Richter dedicated his Piano sonata op.27 to Miss Ashton
, on her return she intended settling in London but the unexpected death of her father necessitated a change in the plans of the family, for some time she remained as music teacher in Durham but seeking a wider sphere for her talent she went to New York and 1870 to Chicago where she married, she lost all her property in the great fire at Chicago in 1871 and never recovered the shock of that terrible event, 21.jun.1874 a Diana U Staab was buried at Greenwood Cemetery Brooklyn ; daughter of composer Charles Ashton ; sister of composer Algernon Ashton ; oct.1870 in Chicago she married composer Louis Staab
