musician, priest, 1860-1870 residing with his parents, 8 siblings, cook, parlormaid, housemaid, nurse and undernurse in Ramsbury Wiltshire, 1870 already a professional musician, 1873 teacher classics at Grammar School in Swansea, 1876 headmaster of Swansea Collegiate School, 1878 BM from St Alban Hall (now Merton College) Oxford, 1880 student theology at the Theological College in Cuddesdon near Oxford, 1881-1882 curate of Whitbourne Herefordshire, 1882 ordained priest in Hereford, 1883-1888 precentor of St Anne's in London Soho, February 1888 he conducted a Lenten performance of Bach's Johannes Passion, 1888-1902 rector of Ringstead Norfolk, 1890 still single residing at The Rectory with 5 servants, 1900 with wife and 2 servants, 1910 residing as clergyman, composer and artist in Watchet, he died at the Somerset and Bath Asylum in Cotford near Bishop's Lydeard ; son of landed proprietor by inheritance at the age of 30 Alfred Batson (London Limehouse 11.jun.1819-19.aug.1885 Ramsbury) and Mary Elizabeth Stephen (India, Calcutta 20.jun.1823-1897 Ramsbury) ; 24.apr.1900 in London Westminster he married the reverend's daughter Arabella Frances Hanmer (Warwickshire, Grendon 13.dec.1849-9.oct.1913 Somerset, Watchet)
