trombonist, cellist, violinist, bandmaster, clerk/accountant by profession, 1854 he settled in Merthyr where he became trombonist in the Cyfarthfa Band (formed 1838) which performed at the exravagant balls hosted by the Crawshays, he organised and conducted the Cyfarthfa String Band in which he played violin and cello, he conducted bands across south Wales, 21.may.1877 he conducted the Band Godigog R. Crawshay in a performance of Haydn's Creation at Drill Hall in Merthyr, 30.may.1891 at Drill Hall he played the trombone solos in a concert by the Cyfarthfa Band on new Godfrey & Sons instruments presented to them by Mrs. Crawshay, 1890-1896 he lived at lodges of Cyfarthfa Castle ; son of Isaac Bawden (Totnes 6.mar.1780-1845 New York City) and Margaret Carlile Daw (Totnes 1782-1846 New York City) ; 11.jul.1845 in Newton Abbott he married Mary Harding (Devon, Huish 24.jan.1824-25.dec.1882 Merthyr) ; son composer William Carlile Bawden ; 1883 in Merthyr he married Frances Lloyd Murphy (Haverfordwest 1834-11.feb.1895 Merthyr)
