bookseller, publisher, agent for the Martin brothers Apollo Press Edinburgh, 1782 he published the 109 volume Bell's edition The Poets of Great Britain, other mayor publications are Shakespeare and The British Theatre, proprietor of Fashionable World, Oracle and 1772 of the Morning Post, he established the Sunday newspaper Bell's Weekly Messenger and the women's magazine La Belle Assemblee, called 'the mischievous spirit, the very puck of booksellers' he combined the stock of some forty publishing firms to secure a monopoly of the best publications
