blind pianist, organist, until the age of 10 studied music with his mother, then with Mr. L Winkler (music editor for Henry Litolff) in Braunschweig, he passed his examination at the Conservatorium in Berlin, piano tuner from the age of 13 for all his life, 17.oct.1885 he performed in Adelaide, 1888-1890 organist of the Sankt Petri in Braunschweig, 1890 he was engaged for a 6 month concert tour in Australia and decided to stay, settling in Adelaide as teacher piano and organ, 1897-1929 organist of St Paul's Church (Cathedral) at Halifax Street in Adelaide ; 29.dec.1885 in Adelaide he married Ada Lee Chapman (-11.jul.1917 Adelaide) ; son Hans Erich Bertram (Adelaide 29.apr.1888-)
