hymnwriter, editor, writer on music, 1815 the family moved to Merthyr Tydfil, he went to school for only a short period as he started work at the age of 8 in an iron foundry where he was to become an important official, studied music privately and in evening classes, 1835 appointed precentor of Soar Congregational Chapel, he started a music class where he taught the rudiments of music, 1836 he contributed his first of many articles on music to Y Diwygiwr, also became hymn-tune editor of that journal ; 8.dec.1833 in Merthyr Tydfil he married Mary Lewis (Merthyr Tydfil 1806-)
