Gambaro, Vincenzo (Vincent) b1772-?1828[31.aug.1824] Italy, Genoa - France, Paris
clarinetist, arranger, lived in Trieste and Vienna, before 1792 he had settled in Paris, before 1792 he visited Mozart (1756-1791) in Vienna and transcribed his Serenade Kv388 (if this information from a cd booklet is true, this proves he was born before 1772), he also transcribed works of his said friends the Viennese composers Beethoven (1770-1827) and Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), before 1808 in Paris he founded a music publishing and musical instrument shop which was known as just 'Gambaro', 1808-1810 as 'Mme Gambaro' and after Giovanni had joined the firm as 'Gambaro ou Jeune', 1814-1823 the shop was at 42/44 rue Croix des Petits Champs, after 1809 he was friend with clarinet player/maker Iwan Muller (1786-1854) who was in Paris from 1809, he was also friend with Sigismund Neukomm (1778-1858), Engebert Brepsant (1797-1871) dedicated his Deuxieme Air varie 'a son ami Vincent Gambaro' which was published by Gambaro Plate No.16 (this proves that he was still alive in 1817)
[Fetis gives erroneously for Giovanni Battista Gambaro: '1825 he felt the first symptoms of chest problems and died young in the summer of 1828 in Paris' : this may have been a confusion with Vincent]

[Giovanni Battista Gambaro (Genoa 1785-10.may.1850 Genoa) is the Junior in 'Gambaro ou Jeune', not a son, as then it would be 'Gambaro et Fils']
[? identical with Vincent Gambaro, 1814 living in Paris and married to Madeleine Schaffner (1788-24.mar.1862 Pouilly-sur-Meuse) with son Adolphe David (Paris 10.oct.1814-), daughter Francoise Eugenie (married Paris 7.oct.1830), daughter Adele Victoire (married Paris 28.mar.1837)]
[? related to music editor/publisher Nicolas Antoine Auguste Gambaro (jul.1808-aug.1852 Charleville), 1826 1st prize piano at the Conservatoire National de Paris, 1842 Gambaro (?Nicolas) was piano teacher of Paul Bernard (1827-1879)]

[see also Giovanni Battista Gambaro because they are often confused]
