organist, choral conductor, until 1860 he lived in Fridingen Wurttemberg, studied composition with Peter Lindpaintner in Stuttgart, 1853-1856 teacher and organist at Pedagogium in Neutrauchburg, 1857-1859 he studied in Paris, gregorian chant in Rome Italy and further study in Austria, 1860 his emigration from Fridingen Wurttemberg to Prussia was registered at Tuttlingen, 1860-1873 conductor of the Concertgesellschaft, Sangervereins, Neuen Gesangvereins and Ostpreussischen Sangerbundes in Konigsberg Prussia (now Kaliningrad), 1873 director Neuen Musikschule Stuttgart, 1888 he had moved to New York City USA where he remained for 15 years, 1891-1894 organist of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in New York City residing at 299 8th Street, editor for Fischer New York ; in Germany he married Flora Lipkau ; son Ernst (Konigsberg 1863-), daughter Olga (Koningsberg 26.feb.1866-), daughter Dorothea (Konigsberg 1869-) ; brother of Franz Xaver
