pianist, organist, choirmaster, cantor, studied piano and organ at the Rotterdam and Utrecht Conservatories, DM from the Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht, 1958 music teacher at the Christelijk Lyceum in Zeist and Veenendaal, 1958-1967 organist/choirmaster of the Gereformeerde Bergwegkerk in Zeist, 1958-1967 founder/conductor of the Zeister Kamerkoor, 1960-1966 editor of 'Organist en Eredienst', 1968 music teacher in Leeuwarden and Sneek, 1.dec.1967-1996 cantor/organist of the Martinikerk and conductor of the Martini Cantorij in Bolsward, 25.nov.1970-1987 conductor of Oratoriumvereniging Bolsward with which he gave highly praised performances of Bach's Mattheus Passion every year (although the performances in the later years were criticized), 1980 he became rector of the Rijksscholengemeenschap in Sneek to escape the busy life as musician (he often complained about the hard work) ; son of organist/composer Willem Adriaan Houtman
