pianist, showman-conductor, both genius and madman, his birth was registered with the given names Louis Antoine and none of the 36 given names which are given in several dictionaries, 1833-1836 studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, 1836-1839 rapid gaining popularity with his dance music entertainments at Jardin Turc, 1839 because of debts and several duels he had to leave Paris and went to London, 1840-1859 he organized numerous concerts in London and the provinces always attended by large audiences, he was the founder of the promenade concert seasons (now Proms) of which he organized 24 seasons, 1847-1848 an opera season with Berlioz conducting led to his bankruptcy, Berlioz mentioned his mental instability and failing sense of reality, 1850 he studied composition with Fetis in Brussel, 1857 his Monster Concerts at Surrey Gardens led to heavy financial loss, May 1859 he returned to Paris where he was imprisoned for his debts, and 1860 admitted to a lunatic asylum ; son of merchant Jean Baptiste Antoine Jullien and Marie Franco
