pianist, theatre and church organist, choirmaster, born at 38 Forton Road, chorister of Winchester Cathedral, studied at Winchester Cathedral School and with William Prendergast, church organist in Gosport, 1929-1946 organist and 1946-1948 music supervisor of Gaumont British Picture Co., 11.feb.1929 he inaugurated the new Wurlitzer in Hanley, 1940-1945 he served with the RAF, cinema organist in Epsom Surrey, 1948-1965 organist/choirmaster of Epsom Parish Church, 1949 residing at 52 Hookfield, 1948 conductor of the Hendon and Leatherhead Operatic Societies, 25.may.1949 he made an American tour, 1949-1967 editor for music publisher Chappell, 1968 retired to 13 Hubert Road in Winchester where he resided until his death, he died at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester ; son of builder/employer James Wilfrid Murrant Rapley (Gosport 1873-21.apr.1942 Fareham) and Esther Felton Lancaster (Gosport 1872-26.aug.1958 Fareham, Royal Hospital Portsmouth) ; 1930 in Stoke-on-Trent he married May Keats (Hanley 1905-19.jul.1965 Epsom)
