Thomas, Henry 'Ragtime Texas' 1874-a1961 USA Texas, Big Sandy - ?Tyler
blues singer, guitarist, quills, one of nine children of former cotton plantation slaves, he first learned to play the quills, c1890 he escaped the farmwork and made a living by singing along the Texas and Pacific and Katy railroads that ran from Fort Worth and Dallas to Texarkana, 1893 he attended the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, 1927-1929 in Chicago he recorded 23 songs for Vocalion Records, 1927-1929 his songs were arranged by producer for Vocalion and publisher J Mayo Williams (Illinois, Monmouth 1894-1980 Chicago) and copyrighted and published by J M Williams' State Street Music Publishing Company in Chicago, his songs of 1934 which he produced without J Mayo Williams were no longer successful and he seems to have abandoned music that year, in the 1950s he was last active in Tyler Texas, 28.nov.1961 he was still living because copyrigths were renewed to his name
