violinist, composer of strathspeys and other dance music, member of Nathaniel Gow's band and played at balls and other gatherings in Scotland, 1825 as teacher of music residing at High Street in Forfar, he died from being maltreated by some farm servants when going home from a ball ; brother of Thomas R Allan ; cousin of James Allan I
