pianist, began his study piano at the age of five, studied at the Academy of Music in London, active as pianist and piano teacher in London, 1871 as professor of music residing with his widowed mother and a servant at 10 Cottage Grove Court in London Mile End Old Town, 1891 as professor of music residing with his again widowed mother at 70 Lancaster Road in London Kensington ; son of engineer Thomas Allen (Lancaster 1821-?1861 London Mile End) and Marianne Desborough (London Stepney 1822-1893 London Mile End), 14.dec.1874 she married the blind dock laborer Joseph John Grinyer but 1881 she again/still called herself widowed and Allen because Grinyer was taken as inmate at Mile End Old Town Workhouse until his death 1893 ; Alfred Benjamin never married
