organist, teacher, choirmaster, studied with R S Stanbridge, Henry Christian Timm, Otto Dresel and Gustav Sattero, he lived in Worcester Massachusetts for almost 60 years, 1845 organist and teacher of piano and organ in Worcester, 1857-1894 organist of the Union Congregational Church in Worcester, 1858 founder/co-director of the Worcester Festivals where he conducted and played organ and piano, 1871-1876 teacher organ and theory at New England Conservatory in Boston, 1876 teacher at Beloit College in Wisconsin, 1902-1905 organist of Manhattan Congregational Church and the Teachers College in New York City, founder of the AGO (American Guild of Organists), 1905 retired to Wellesley
