jewish, organist, singing teacher, studied music teaching at the Conservatory in Koln, 1900 organist of the Hofkirche in Konigsberg in Preussen (now Russia, Kaliningrad), 1901 singing teacher at the Lyceum, the Conservatory and the Academy of Music in Konigsberg, 1910 founder/conductor of the Madrigalvereinigung Konigsberg, around this time he converted from Judaism to Protestantism, 1912-1936 organist of the Burgkirche in Konigsberg, opera conductor in Konigsberg, he was critic for the 'Hartungsche Zeitung', the 'Konigsberger Anzeiger' and 1921 for the 'Signale fur die Musikalische Welt' in Berlin, 1919 co-founder of the Bundes fur Neue Tonkunst, from 1933 the influence of the Nazi party became stronger and in 1936 he had to give up all his official functions and could only work as a private music teacher, when the deportations began in 1941 he fled to the safer Samland, bordering northwest of Konigsberg ; uncle of composer Ludwig Altman
