violinist, church organist, music teacher, blind from the age of 7 until 16, educated at a school for the blind in Macon, 1880 as assistant teacher of the blind residing with his parents in Goodes near Palmetto, 1889-1910 as music teacher residing in Newnan Georgia, 1889-1894 music publisher in Atlanta Georgia, 1919 as music teacher residing at 537 Washington Street in Atlanta, 1920-1924 as music composer with own studio residing at 210 Lake Avenue in Atlanta, 1924-1927 as organist of the  Second Baptist Church residing in Atlanta, 1928-1930 as music teacher residing at Toombs Street in Palmetto ; son of farmer Joseph Hillman Astin (Georgia 19.feb.1825-8.mar.1881 Newnan) and Frances E Dean (Georgia 1830-1910 Newnan) ; 27.may.1886 in Macon he married Martha 'Mattie' Sherwood (Georgia 29.nov.1864-23.feb.1924 Atlanta) ; 1926 he married proprietor general merchandise Lizzie (Georgia 1880-), 1950 unable to work residing in Palmetto
