violist, bandmaster, conductor, professor of music, 1870 residing with his parents in Sherrill Missouri, 1887-1900 as grocer residing in Houston Missouri, 1889 leader of the Houston Band, 6.feb.1902 organizer and leader of a brass band in Houston, 16.may.1907 organizer and leader of the Raymondville Band, 1910-1930 as farmer employer residing in Jackson Missouri, 1910 bandmaster of the Licking Band, 1916-1917 conductor of the Cabool High School Orchestra, 1931 conductor of the Houston Orchestra, until 1935 active as teacher of music, for 55 years had been leader in music and has taught music in nearly every high school in Texas county and in several other schools in Missouri and Oklahoma, he has organized and led bands in many communities ; son of musician/farmer and carpenter William C Atkisson (Tennessee Williamson near Nashville 16.dec.1829-26.aug.1892 Licking) and Rebecca A Nichols (Tennessee, Bedford 12.sep.1835-29.nov.1902 Licking) ; brother of composer Ben E Atkisson ; 27.jul.1884 he married Julia Ann Holt (Georgia, Ellijay 14.apr.1863-11.aug.1941 Raymondville) ; they had 8 children
