pianist, organist, writer on theology, sociology, art history, 1938-1942 studied at Proviso Township High School in Maywood Illinois where he was very active in music especially as pianist and organist, BA philosophy from the University of Wisconsin, MA sociology from the University of Rochester, M.Div. and M.Th. from Colgate Rochester Divinity School, studied at the Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary of Northwestern University and the University of Cambridge, he was awarded seven honorary doctorate degrees by colleges across the country, vice-president of Kalamazoo College (1959-1964), Davis and Elkins College and Barat College, president of the Council of Protestant Colleges and Universities, professor in six institutions and adjunct professor in three theological seminaries, 1984-1993 lecturer in the School of Social Work, University of Washington, apart from the listed works he was not active in music ; son of Public Service Co. lineman Lloyd James Averill sr. (Nebraska, Lincoln 3.oct.1898-7.oct.1989 Chicago Maywood) and Dorothea M Rogers (Illinois, Winfield 25.sep.1900-aug.1994 Chicago Maywood) ; c1946 he married Shirley Karr Smith ; 11.nov.1975 in Jackson Missouri he married Carol Anne White (7.oct.1943-), 15.dec.1989 she divorced him ; 4.dec.1999 in Tacoma he married Gloria D Mansfield
