organist, choral and orchestral conductor, professor of music, in South Africa considered an amateur, 1892 moved to Port Elizabeth South Africa where he used the name Waltham Baker, 1892-1894 organist of St Mary's Anglican Church, 1893 organist of the new organ at the Feather Market Hall but because of his disappointing repertoire he was replaced in September, 1894 he conducted the Philharmonic Societies of Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage in performances of the Messiah and The Creation in Port Elizabeth, 17.may.1894 he joined, 30.jun.1896 excluded for non payment and 9.nov.1896 resigned the Port Elizabeth freemason Lodge of Good Hope, until 1895 he led the Volunteer Guards Band which declined under his baton, 1896 returned to England, 1898-1905 with family residing in Perth Scotland, 1904 went with his daughter Rita May to the USA, 17.aug.1905 the family moved to the USA, 1910-1920 residing in Richmond Virginia where he was organist of Grace Baptist Church, 23.aug.1913 the family emigrated to the USA, 1930 with his daughter Rita May music teachers in Baltimore ; nov.1893 in Cape Town South Africa he married soprano Amelia Matilda Goldstraw (England, Manchester 28.nov.1872-26.nov.1966 Virginia, Richmond) ; daughter violinist Doris Mildred (Port Elizabeth 23.sep.1894-5.jan.1978 Richmond) ; daughter cellist Rita May (Scotland, Perth 6.dec.1897-11.mar.1987 Richmond) who studied at the University of Richmond Virginia and at Peabody Conservatory Baltimore and 1925-1946 taught cello at Peabody ; son bandmaster Stanley Robert (Richmond 1907-30.jul.1933 drowned in Lake Champlain Plattsburgh)
