singer, pianist, conductor, surveyor, 1890 emigrated with his family from Utrecht to Pretoria South Africa as bookkeeper and music reviewer of De Volksstem Company, singer in concerts and operettas in Pretoria, singer and conductor of the Rederijkerskamer 'Onze Taal' and of the Hollandsch Mannenkoor in Pretoria, 16.apr.1899 he left Pretoria for Brussel Belgium to become bookkeeper of the South African Republican Legation, 1902 on the end of the 'Boer War' the family returned to Nassaustraat 31 Utrecht, 28.apr.1906 he was again naturalized Dutchman, 1.jul.1906 appointed surveyor in Den Haag, producer of the Toynbee Vereeniging, 7.feb.1914 director of the 's-Gravenhaagsche Opera- en Operettevereeniging van Dilletanten ; son of Johannes Hendricus Balfoort and Johanna Cornelia Rutgers ; 1.mar.1883 in Amsterdam he married singer Elizabeth Joanna van 't Hul (Nijmegen 1859-1945) ; son violinist, musicologist, ?composer Dirk Jacobus Balfoort
