conductor, jewish, studied music at Stern Conservatory in Berlin, studied with Engelbert Humperdinck and Hermann Kretzschmar in Berlin, 1914-1918 he served in World War I, 1918 conductor of the Gesellschaft 'Gross-Berlin', 1919-1933 choir repetitor and conductor at several theaters in Berlin oa the Krolloper and the Staatsoper, 1923 graduated as doctor of philosophy from the University of Heidelberg and Jena, 1933 he fled to London where he was university professor until retirement in 1959, during World War II he lived in Jerusalem
