 violinist, cellist, pianist, conductor, in his youth organist in Brugge, studied at the Conservatoire Royal in Liege, by 1862 his parents had settled in Brussel, 1862 studied violin under Hubert Leonard at the Conservatoire de Bruxelles, for many years cellist at Theatre Royal de la Monnaie (De Munt) in Brussel, since 1870 his works were regularly performed at St Michel and Ste Gudule in Brussel, 1889-1898 librarian and 1893 for a short time replacing his brother as conductor of Theatre Royal de la Monnaie, 1894 he published a voluminous biography on his teacher and friend Charles Louis Hanssens (1802-1871) ; son of musician Johann Jacob Elias Lorenz (Jean Jacques Elie Laurent) Barwolf (Aspach Alsace 17.dec.1804-) and Josephina Isabella De Potter (Brugge 30.nov.1806-) who married 19.nov.1839 in Brugge ; brother of conductor Jean Francois Edouard Barwolf (Brugge 20.oct.1842-), 1863 and 1865 graduated as singer from Conservatoire de Bruxelles, 1873-1889 conductor of the Grand Theatre in Lille, 1889-1893 of Theatre royal de la Monnaie in Brussel, 1898-1906 of Theatre royal francais in Den Haag
