music critic, lawyer, son of a German merchant, came to Germany as a child, studied law taking a doctorate, 1830 settled as lawyer in Elberfeld, music critic for the Kolner Zeitung, 1837-1840 teacher theory and aesthetics at the Royal Music School in Den Haag Netherlands, 1840 music critic for the Allgemeiner Wiener Musik-Zeitung and 1842 for the Sontagsblatter in Vienna, 1848 on the outbreak of the March Revolution he co-founded the extremist paper Der Radikale, when Vienna fell he was executed for treason to the monarchy
