mathematician, librarian, amateur musician, studied at the University of Altdorf, 1779 graduated from the University of Leipzig, 1786 legation secretary in Sachsen service and assigned to the embassy in Munchen, admitted at the KoniglichBayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften, 1802 returned to Dresden as legation councilor, 1804 became Secret Cabinet Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs and accompanied the Elector Friedrich August III (1806 King Friedrich August I) on journeys, 1810 Geheimen Legationsrats, 1813 librarian of the Koniglichen Offentlichen Bibliothek in Dresden, 1824 deterioration of memory led to retirement in 1826, after a stroke he died unmarried in Dresden
