harpsichordist, theorist, 1756-1759 studied philosophy and 1759-1762 law at the University of Strasbourg, 1766 moved to Paris to study music, 1769 he
met philosopher Denis Diderot and became teacher harpsichord and harmony to his daughter, he worked as music teacher and published very successful
treatises on music, 1781 moved to London where he taught music and translated his treatises
