bandmaster, pianist, studied music with Louis Girard, Francois Bazin and Theodore Dubois at the Conservatoire de Paris, 1870 after his study he was repetiteur for harmony bands at the Conservatoire de Paris, until 1886 professor of music in Argentan until he was replaced by Michaud, then lived for a time in Dreux, 1888 professor of music and conductor of Fanfare municipale in Pithiviers, director of College de Pithiviers, 1887 he invented a clairon 'Clairon Benard' which was adopted by the Fanfare militaire of Argentan and was on the point of being accepted by the ministry the day before the fall of Georges Boulanger (17.may.1887), 1895 as composer member of Societe des auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques, 1896 the Revue des Beaux-Arts et des Lettres published a portrait and biography of him, he was decorated Officier d'Academie ; son of garde chasse Nicolas Benard (1803-) and Marie Louise Lenoir (1801-) ; 8.may.1868 in Marines Val-d'Oise he married the widow limonadier Louise Desiree Guichard (Marines 7.oct.1834-)
