oboist, pianist, studied with Anton Ree in Copenhagen, with Niels Gade at Copenhagen Conservatory, with Theodor Kullak in Berlin, with Franz Liszt in Weimar, teacher piano at Copenhagen Conservatory, 1868-1880 oboist at Copenhagen Royal Theatre, 1880 settled in Boston where he gave his first recital at Chickering's piano rooms, 1882-1895 teacher piano at New England Conservatory in Boston, 1895 established his own conservatory in San Francisco, 1897-1901 residing at 1416 California Street San Francisco ; son of merchant and amateur flutist Emanuel Bendix (Copenhagen 4.jun.1814-26.jun.1876 Copenhagen) and Ida Caroline Mathilde Magnus (Copenhagen 6.mar.1818-13.mar.1889 Copenhagen) ; 1874 in Denmark he married Sophie Petersen, 1890 teacher at Chauncy Hall School in Boston and still living with Otto ; 1893 he married pianist Ellen Gunn (Kansas, Junction City 15.dec.1867-14.feb.1943 San Francisco) ; brother of the composers Victor and Fritz
