cornetist, bandmaster, boy alto in the Warren Street Chapel, 1878 his career as popular Boston tenor ended because he lost his voice due to bronchitis, 29.oct.1863-12.jul.1865 enlisted as bugler for duty in the Civil War in the 56th Infantry Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers, 1865 cornetist in Boston bands, 1872-1878 traveled southern states where he studied harmony and composition, nov.1878 enlisted in the Navy where he played euphonium on the warship USS Richmond, 1881-1888 while on shore he played in bands and theatres in Boston, feb.1888-apr.1908 bandmaster of the US Receiving Ship Wabash at the Charleston Navy Yard, 6.apr.1917-24.may.1919 called back into service, 1919 retired to Malden Massachusetts, 10.dec.1925 suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the Soldiers Home Hospital in Chelsea ; son of professor of music William Bennet (Boston 1789-1855 Boston) and Abby G (Massachusetts 1822-) ; 3.may.1869 in Boston he married Mary Ann Knights (Boston may.1850-jan.1929)
