jazz pianist, songwriter, of African descent, 1899 moved with his family to Atlanta Georgia where he became inspired by the blues of the black prisoners of Fulton Street Jail, 1905-1908 attended Atlanta University, 1906 started as performer in minstrel shows, 1907 joined Allen's New Orleans Minstrels, 1909 played as solo pianist in Chicago, 1908-1919 toured the US with a song and dance act 'Bradford and Jeanette', 1918 became musical director of Mamie Smith in New York producing shows in Harlem, 1942 founded his own Perry Bradford Music Publishing Company at 1587 Broadway, he gave his birthday as 14.feb.1896 ; 11.jul.1936 in New York he married Ruth Naomi Brewer (NC, Edenton 1913-)
