archaeologist, historian, amateur composer, singer and pianist, received musical education by his father who was amateur guitarist, 1834 aged 17 graduated from the Societe des Lettres, Sciences et Arts in Correze as Bachelor of Letters including education in music, later he studied singing with Manuel Garcia, 1834 studied law in Toulouse, 1837 barrister in Bordeaux, 12.may.1839 joined the Ministere des Travaux Publics in Paris, 5.may.1846 chief of the same Ministere in Algiers, 3.apr.1854 back in Paris he married Mlle Fourcade-Prunet who died sep.1861 from diphtheria, after 1844 diminished his musical activities and devoted himself to archeology and history, 13.oct.1873 made officier of the Legion d'honneur
