7.mar.1897 baptized at Christ Church Harrogate, 1900 residing at 35 Denmark Street and 1910 at 8 Devonshire Place Harrogate, at school in Harrogate he met Percy Dixon, 1913 together with Percy Dixon and Gerald Finzi he studied music with Ernest Farrar (who was organist of Christ Church in Harrogate from 1912), he made career in the civil service, later was surveyor of customs and excise and remained amateur in music, at time of death residing at 95 Longton Road Trentham ; son of house painter/employer John William Gill (Yorkshire, Bradford 1874-) and Kate Blackstone (Yorkshire, Knaresborough 1875-) who married 7.jun.1896 in Harrogate
