violinist, pianist, organist, music dealer and publisher, infant prodigy, 1774 the family moved to the USA settling in Charleston but returned to the Netherlands at the outbreak of the Revolution (c1776), 1789 the family moved from Zutphen to New York City, October 1789 debuted in New York when his father introduced to the public his son Peter Junior, eight years of age, the boy rendered a vocal selection and played a concerto on the pianoforte, September 1796 the family moved to Boston, violinist in his fathers orchestra at Hay-Market Theatre, May 1898 he took over his fathers music publishing as P A von Hagen Jun. & Co., March 1799 at 55 Marlboro Street and in May moved to 3 Cornhill Street with Piano Forte Ware House at 4 Old Massachusetts Bank, but due to lack of competence the fortunes deteriorated and in 1804 the firm was sold to Gottlieb Graupner, 1800 organist of Trinity Church Boston, after the death of his father his reputation declined and he became an alcoholic, 1810 bandleader in South Boston and Fort Eustis Virginia, 6.may.1812 he was granted land in Township fifty-five north in Missouri for his duty as musician in the corps of Light Artillery, 1833 violist in the orchestra of Tremont Theatre Boston, 11.sep.1837 buried at Boston Central Burial Ground (dead were always buried the next day) ; grandson of composer Peter Albrecht von Hagen (Germany, Hamburg f1740-f1772 ?Netherlands) ; son of composer Peter Albrecht van Hagen sr. (Netherlands 1755-20.aug.1803 Massachusetts, Boston) and pianist/organist Elizabeth Joanette Catherine van Hagen (Netherlands, ?Amsterdam 1750-1.sep.1809 Boston ; 12.jun.1800 in Boston he married schoolmistress Lucy Ballard (Boston 1780-10.oct.1855 Boston) ; apparently she was not happy with her marriage because 15.jun.1821 by act of the Social Library in Boston Charlestown the name of Peter Albertus von Hagen Jr. (Boston 31.oct.1800-) was changed to Davis Coolidge Ballard and 12.jun.1824 the name of Joseph Haydn von Hagen (Boston 16.aug.1805-) to Joseph Adams Ballard and of Joanette Catherine Elizabeth von Hagen to Joanette Catherine Elizabeth Ballard
