Prevost, Toussaint (pseud: Ritter, Theodore) 5.apr.1840-6.apr.1886 France, Nantes - Paris
pianist, studied with Hector Berlioz in Paris of whom he was a great admirer, studied piano and composition with Franz Liszt who suggested him to adopt the name Theodore Ritter, 8.mar.1862 he was authorized by decree to use the name Prevost-Ritter, he became an internationally renowned concert pianist and traveled Europe and South America, especially England, Germany and Belgium, 10.sep.1869 he arrived at New York City, he was decorated Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur and Officier d'Academie and was vice-president of Association departementale des compositeurs de musique, without fortune he died suddenly of ruptured aneurysm at his home Rue Taitbout 13 in Paris leaving a little girl Alice that his mother had to raise ; son of composer Eugene Prosper Prevost and singer Eleonore Colon ; brother of soprano Cecile Ritter-Ciampi ; he married singer Alice Desgranges

[the Figaro of 9.nov.1876 published an article which completely contradicts to the above biography, it says his father's name was Bennet a shipbuilder and large estate owner in Marseille and salon owner in Paris, not a musician, who took his son's adopted name Ritter ; this fiction seems to originate from Berlioz]
